A Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant is a water treatment system that uses advanced filtration technology to remove impurities, salts, and contaminants from water. It is widely used for drinking water purification, industrial processes, desalination, and wastewater treatment.
The RO process works by forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane under high pressure, allowing only pure water molecules to pass while rejecting dissolved solids, bacteria, and other pollutants.
Pre-Filtration System – Removes large particles (sand, silt, chlorine) to protect the RO membrane.
High-Pressure Pump – Increases water pressure to push it through the RO membrane.
RO Membrane – The core component that filters out dissolved salts, heavy metals, and microbes.
Post-Treatment (Optional) –
Storage Tank & Distribution – Stores purified water for use.
✔ Removes up to 99% of dissolved salts, bacteria, and chemicals.
✔ Improves taste, odor, and clarity of water.
✔ Cost-effective for large-scale water purification.
✔ Reduces dependency on bottled water (eco-friendly).
✖ High energy consumption (due to pressure pumps)
✖ Wastes some water (reject brine, typically 20-50% of input).
✖ Removes beneficial minerals (requires remineralization for drinking water).
RO plants play a crucial role in providing clean, safe water for drinking and industrial needs. While they have some drawbacks, advancements in technology are making them more efficient and sustainable.
